Silent march against racism in Athens – show your support for multiculturalism in Greece on 15 December

by zoejardiniere

07.12.2012 The European Grassroots Antiracist Movement (EGAM) is organising a demonstration in Athens next Saturday 15 December. Protestors will gather at 15.00 outside the Parliament in central Athens and march in silence to the Acropolis.

The march comes in response to the rise in xenophobic sentiment in Greece and in other European countries. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the popularity of the neo-Nazi political party ‘Golden Dawn’, which recent polls rank as the third political party in Greece. The party has been blamed for a dramatic escalation in racially motivated attacks on non-white migrants throughout Greece over the past months.

EGAM hopes to bring together people who believe in European democracy, and condemn racism, anti-Semitism and neo-Nazis in the parliament of a democratic, pluralistic state.
